Canonically Speaking...
... Outside of Jack Harkness, "the Brig" is still the longest serving friend of the Doctor, even if the actor is no longer with us.
His first appearance was during the 2nd Doctor's era as a Colonel in a military force that was the predecessor to UNIT. Click here for more information on this complex and long running character in the show. | ... And giving the Brig a longer run.
Canonically, the character lives well on to the 2050's, and so this gives plenty of play for further adventures with the Brigadier.
His role in The Legacy is mostly one of support and massive amounts of political and military influence, even while being officially retired from UNIT. He also serves as a stand in for the Original Doctor when the Doctor needs a fatherly figure to turn to. His latest involvement is also being directly involved with Lady Autumn in an almost romantic connection since she arrived with the Time Lord Remnant. When she needed a safe retreat, it was Sir Alistair who stepped in and open his home to the elder Time Lord. He also involves himself in the affairs of Sarah Jane Smith, directly when needed. |
